People's Choice voting for car shows — ModLinQ | ModLinQ

People's Choice voting

Let the crowd pick the favorite.

Judges score for craftsmanship. The crowd votes with their gut. Both rendered side-by-side on the leaderboard, both surfaced in the awards reveal. One ballot per phone — anti-cheat without making your spectators sign up for anything.

Open to who you want

Three audience modes.

Public (anyone with the link, no sign-in), all members (any logged-in ModLinQ user), or upgraded-only (Pro members get the perk on free events). Pick per event. Paid events almost always go public so the people who paid to attend can vote.

The voting UI

A grid of every entrant. Tap to vote.

Spectators see every car at the show — photo, year/make/model, entrant name, entry number. Tap a card, hit confirm, done. We dedupe on a per-phone token so one phone can't vote 100 times for cousin Steve's Camaro.

Live leaderboard banner.

The leading entrant gets a gradient banner above the class standings on the public leaderboard. As votes shift, the banner shifts. Project it on TV mode and the crowd watches their favorite climb in real time.

Why we built it this way

Anti-cheat without friction.

1

No login required (public mode)

Forcing a signup at the moment of voting kills participation. Public mode dedupes on browser fingerprint + IP — good enough for a fun "favorite" award.

2

Pro upsell on free events

Free shows that gate to upgraded members are a soft conversion driver — no pressure, just a "vote? upgrade your account" callout.

3

Renders alongside winners

PC champion shows up on the leaderboard, the awards reveal, and the past-years card. It's a real award, not a sidebar.

From the platform

Real builds. Real entrants.

These are members' cars on ModLinQ today — exactly the kind of profile context judges and spectators see at events using this feature.

FAQ

Common questions.

Can I disable People's Choice for a specific event?
Yes — toggle it off in the event setup. The vote tab disappears and the leaderboard hides the banner.
Can someone vote for their own car?
In public mode, technically yes — same as raising your hand in a crowd. In members mode you can lock voting to non-entrants.
How do you stop ballot stuffing?
Per-phone token + IP throttling + member-mode gating when the show needs tighter rules. Good enough for "fun crowd award" — not a presidential election.
