QR code scanner for car shows — ChipLinQ smart routing | ModLinQ

QR scanner + ChipLinQ

One scan. The right screen.

ChipLinQ tags or windshield-card QR codes work the same way: scan with the ModLinQ app or any phone camera. Judges land on the ballot for that exact car. Spectators land on the vote screen. The car owner lands on their own claim flow if they're new. Nobody types an entry number, nobody fumbles paperwork.

Smart context routing

We figure out who you are. We send you to the right screen.

Scan resolves the car. Then we look at WHO scanned. A judge on the panel? They go to the ballot. A spectator with a vote token? They go to the People's Choice tap. An entrant who hasn't claimed their entry? They go to the claim flow. Nobody else? Public car profile. One QR, four destinations, zero confusion.

How it works on the day

Scan once. Vote once. Move on.

1

Native browser camera

iOS 17+ ships with BarcodeDetector. We use it. Older phones get jsQR via CDN as a fallback. No app required, no install friction.

2

Tags, cards, or stickers

Use ChipLinQ NFC/QR tags shipped to your show, print windshield cards from the manage page, or even hand-write the URL — it all routes the same way.

3

It works without judges, too

After the show, the same QR keeps routing — to the public car profile. Spectators who shot photos at the meet can come home, scan, and message the owner.

No app to download.

Spectators won't install your app for a 30-second vote. ModLinQ's QR layer runs in the camera. iOS shows a tap-to-open notification, Android the same. The vote happens in their browser. Drop-off is essentially zero.

These are members' cars on ModLinQ today — exactly the kind of profile context judges and spectators see at events using this feature.

FAQ

Common questions.

Do I need ChipLinQ tags?
No. Free QR cards generated from the manage page work identically. ChipLinQ tags add weather-proofing + NFC tap, but the routing logic is the same.
Can the same QR work next year?
Yes — ChipLinQ tags are bound to the car, not the event. The same tag works at every show that car attends.
What if my phone is offline?
A QR scan loads a single URL — about as light as it gets. As long as you have a bar of cell service, it works. We don't require a heavy app payload.
